It's simple mathematics - get more traffic, and the number of conversions you will achieve will increase in line with the traffic increase. It's not hard to understand, but what most people struggle with is how to go about getting that traffic. Some people spend thousands on marketing via PPC, others spend hundreds advertising in the local media - in fact the biggest mistake make in terms of marketing is to splash an entire budget on one method of marketing without even knowing if it works.
Determine the PPC traffic YOU want
Getting more traffic is easy with a PPC campaign, the problem with it is PPC companies will send any old crap your way - that's why you really need targeted traffic, for decent keywords. Anyone can get traffic using PPC, enter 500 useless keywords and you will have traffic in no time. The art of being a successful online business person is not getting more traffic, it's getting more quality traffic. Quality traffic is defined by those who want to be on your site, those who are actually looking for the product or services you provide, and those people are proven to convert into sales well. There's no point spending thousand on traffic if it's not specific to your site.
So whilst it's easy to say more traffic means more customers - you need to make sure the traffic you're paying for is relevant to your site. One of the best PPC advertising programs is Google's Adwords scheme. There are a plethora of parameters you can determine so the traffic is highly targeted to your site - hopefully leading to high conversion rates.
Social media as a source of traffic
PPC isn't the only way to get traffic, social media is too. Every company should invest some time into social media, because it's such a great way of marketing. Many firms are now employing social media managers because they're coming to terms and respecting the positive effect that social media is having on the marketing landscape. If you've not invested any time or cash into social media then now might be a good time - and it's not even costly. If you want to run the entire social media campaign single handedly it's possible, thus saving money that can be invested in other forms of marketing.
The amount of traffic you can drive to your website through social media is entirely dependent on how much time and effort you put into your social media campaign and the type of product or service you're selling. If you're offering an eBook or something that is a global product, expect far better results than if you're selling a service or product which is localized. A global market isn't always necessary when it comes to working out how to get more customers by using social media either - lots of local business make huge traffic gains by having a social media presence.
SEO - the best there is?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the third big way to entire traffic and hence get more customers on your website. SEO like social media can be a free way of marketing, as long as you're willing to invest some time. SEO is relatively straight forward, but you'll need to do a lot of reading into it before you can properly master the art. Many people think it's a case of simply throwing up some keyword rich content - and they're wrong, there's so much more to SEO than that.
If you want to get more customers you need to first get more traffic. Don't go paying lots for a PPC campaign - find a balance between PPC, SEO and a social media presence. Cheap PPC clicks and organic SEO traffic are a great way to get more customers for your online business.
