I have been looking into several alternatives to Wordtracker. For most new marketers it is simply not necessary and costs several hundred dollars a year. Keyword Magic Professional is one of several options that have caught my attention. If you are a type A person and happen to be wearing a $5,000 watch or driving a $50,000 car than Wordtracker is likely right for you; however, if you are a new to intermediate marketer on a budge read this review on KMP to help you decide if it is right for your needs. This program extracts much of the same data that the expensive research tools do at a fraction of the cost.
Overview
This program has several features that one would find on more expensive keyword research tools. To start will it interfaces with Wordtracker, Google Discovery, or Google Keyword Tool. The latter is the option that makes most sense to me. Many new marketers start out by using Google's Keyword tool. It is free; however, KMP creates a very user-friendly interface to speed up the process and guide the user.
The user interface for the program is much cleaner and user-friendly than some others in the Keyword Research arena. If you are a visual person this is a program you may want to use. It uses separate areas of the screen that makes it easy to choose different options and work with your lists.
How It Works
Like almost any keyword research tool with Keyword Magic Pro you start by created lists of possible keywords, getting possible alternatives, and analyzing what is likely to work best.
Other Features
Once you have your basic list of possibilities there are a number of features that allow you to distill your list into the targeted keywords you need.
1) Extract Number of Competitors in Google, MSM, and Yahoo.
The first thing to consider when deciding to choose any keyword is how much competition does it have?
2) Check Daily search Volume of Searches
Another major consideration that Keyword Magic handles for you is a listing of the daily search volume of each
keyword or keyword phase.
3) Filter Searches
After getting suggestions and building a list of commonly searched keywords with the lowest possible competition most keyword research tools provide a filter of some kind. KMP provides a filter feature that allows you to get rid of the terms connected to words that you don't want. It also allow you to filter phrases that include words you do want. This is a handy tool to carve your list down to usable, targeted keywords.
4) See cost of CPC in Google
There is also an easy interface provided which allows you to import keywords you want to look into and export lists when you are done.
One cool features of KMP 2.0 is that it shows the average CPC for Google ads. It also tells you have many Google ads are running for each keyword. Why is that important? Because if people are willing to pay for those keywords they must be getting a return of their investment!
Cost
The cost is just $47 dollars with an annual renewal of $27 dollars a year! That means for the price of one month of the most expensive research tools you can use Keyword Magic Professional for a year! That makes this program a great option that does not break the bank of a newer online entrepreneur.
Cons
It is certainly true that this program does not have some of the power and features of more expensive keyword research tools. Also, because this program works as an interface with Google it is obviously Google centered. For most marketers this is not an issue.
I have always coach folks to start out small and don't bother to get an expensive machine you are not ready to use. One could choose to spend several hundred dollars a year on keyword research, but that would not make a lot of sense if they were not going to see a good return on the investment.
Furthermore, I am not convinced that for most marketers it is really necessary.
