Search Engine Optimisation - Some Up To Date SEO Tips

SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is out there for everyone to know about. Only a couple of years ago it seemed like a magical process worked secretly by the SEO pixies and most people didn't even know it existed. But nowadays just about anyone launching a new website for even the smallest business will be thinking about SEO. The difficulty is that SEO is like a kind of arms race, it changes all the time and it can cost lots of money. If you are not familiar with the current techniques or only dabble occasionally it can be easy to waste your time and budget on the less effective methods whilst maybe missing the easy wins. Of course link building is very important and the SEO basics still apply:

Remember that a lot of SEO is about the individual page, not the site as a whole.Choose the right keywords, and not too many of them. Don't try to SEO a page for twenty keywords, make twenty pages for one keyword each. Each page needs good copy, keyword rich for search engines and useful, informative prose that is readable by human beings.Use the tags. Your Title, Description and Keyword tags should all contain matching keywords.Adding pictures or video gives you more opportunity to use tags and site maps to get your content found.

Let's take a moment to think about video. There are various ways of using video as part of your SEO strategy. What ever your page is about, it can probably be illustrated with a helpful and/or entertaining video. It needn't be broadcast quality but remember that your audience watch TV and movies all the time and have a level of expectation. If your video is shaky, hand-held, poorly lit or you can't hear what people are saying then your customers will click away. Unless you are at least competent with a video camera, and preferably video editing software too, get professional help making your video content! It may be less expensive than you think and will pay dividends in the long run. You could host your video on YouTube and embed it into your site, but this is not great from an SEO point of view. Apart from anything else the links go in the wrong direction. Better to embed a video player and host the video on your own site, and use at least one of the three approved methods to make it show up in search results. New article coming soon on the specific ways to use Video for SEO.

So yes SEO can appear daunting but it is fairly straight forward to get the basics right. If in doubt, always seek the advice of somebody who knows what they're doing but isn't trying to sell you an expensive piece of SEO software.
