Search Engine Optimization - Which Businesses Have The Need For SEO?

The reality is ALL businesses have a need for search engine optimization, or SEO, because all businesses need to have a website if they are going to survive in the next 3-5 years. In fact, businesses that don't have a website or have websites that are outdated are in serious trouble because a business's website is the single most important online asset a business has. So, what types of businesses need search engine optimization? Well, that's exactly what we are going to find out right now.

Any business who conducts any sort of business online really needs search engine optimization. Online selling and online business has evolved exponentially in the last few years. Consumers expect more from their online experiences and they expect websites to be simple to use and to solve their problems quickly. The same rules apply for purchasing products or services online, or conducting business online. It must be simple.

A great candidate for SEO is a business that does not currently generate a large percentage of traffic from the search engines. The purpose of a website is to attract customers and then convert them by having them take an action. An action can be to buy something, to fill out a form, to opt-in to a list, to call a business, whatever. Every single minute of every single day, people are using search engines to look for and buy exactly what you have to offer. The key is to be right there at the exact moment they are searching in the search engines. That's why search engine optimization is crucial to a business's online success. If the business isn't getting enough traffic from the search engines right now, that problem needs to be addressed.

Another great business candidate for SEO is a business who does not show up in the search engines for the highly relevant keywords related to their business. If your business is in the deep sea fishing industry, your online business is doomed if you don't show up for 'deep sea fishing' terms and keywords. Remember, the search engines will only show relevant results of websites that will solve their customer's problems. If your site isn't optimized with the right keywords to solve their problems, the traffic will be sent to your competitors.

Local search is HUGE today and a business who doesn't show up in the local search listings is a great candidate for search engine optimization. One of the hot topics today is getting a business to claim its Google Places page. Once it's claimed by the business, the next step is to optimize it. More than 90% of all business have NOT claimed their Google Places page. On top of that, most businesses have no idea how to optimize their Google Places page once they claim it which is why business who don't show up in local search are great candidates for SEO.

A business who does not show up for their company brand name or products is another great candidate for search engine optimization. Imagine if you were selling deep sea fishing equipment and your brand was 'XYZ Fishing Co.' and your brand or company never showed up in any search results. That's a big problem, but it's more common than you think.
