1. Craigslist has a very high page rank, this means that all there ads are indexed very quickly by Google and the other search engines. This can be a huge boost to your site since virtually all the ads listed on Craigslist are only two or three clicks from there homepage.
2. They allow you to post a link to your site in your ad. This gives you a very potent one way back link that not only brings traffic to your website, it can also get crawled by Google and indexed very quickly.
3. You'll get a good sized boost in traffic right away. If you create a well written ad between 100 to 700 words your ad will likely appear on the first page of Google's search results.
4. Even though Craigslist automatically by default adds the rel=no follow tag onto all the links posted on its site, Google still takes those links very seriously and can boost the ranking of the links target page.
Things to remember before posting an ad on Craigslist
Make sure however to follow the terms and conditions that Craigslist uses. Never do anything that would be considered spam, unethical, antisocial, or anything that would be considered inappropriate, otherwise Craigslist will delete your ad. Craigslist also won't let you post multiple ads in multiple cities like it used to, this is to combat spammers and will take down similar looking ads even if you use multiple email accounts and phone numbers.
Another thing I found is that Craigslist doesn't accept ads that are promotional in nature. So instead of writing about your site write about something you can provide and include a link to your site. This can be something like offering to exchange links, guest posting, or offering advice. Whatever the service is make it well written to attract people to your site.
