Getting high quality back links to your site is a must if you want to rank well on the search engines. High quality back links are and will probably always be looked at as an indicator of your websites or blogs quality and relevancy. And while there are many places to find those back links here are 6 that you might not have thought about.
1. Your local press
There are a couple places you can get the word out about your site. One of the is with your local newspaper. Most newspapers have a website and will publish anything of interest. This obviously won't work for all websites, but if your site is business related you can pitch them a piece about something involving that business. Many newspapers also have a classifieds section; if it's free you can place an ad there as well.
2. Local radio
You would be surprised how well this one works for pretty much any type of website out there. The trick with this is to call in. Try to call in during their peak listening hours such as a morning talk show or afternoon requests. If your call goes live this is where you get to advertise your site by giving it a shout out. Make sure that you don't just talk about your site but also talk about what's being discussed. Play your cards right and the radio host will even help you advertise your site by asking question about it or repeating the websites URL.
3. Local directories
Another place to get easy back links is through local directories. Sure they probably won't bring you many visitors. The flip side however is that they provide a local vote that sites well with search engines.
4. Clubs and organizations
Many local clubs, community groups, and organizations have their own websites. Many of these are well established with good page rank and visits. If your site fits into a particular organization such as having a car website and their a car club they'll probably be receptive to add a link on their site.
5. Local businesses
Getting links from these types of sites can be beneficial to both you and them. One trick is to find business websites with outdated looking sites with good page rank and offer to help update their site In exchange for your link being added. It might take a couple hours but your link will be there for years.
6. Schools
Education websites from high schools, colleges, and universities are highly prized back links. Anything with .edu at the end of it is SEO gold and has the value of a 1000+ regular links. These are a bit tricky to get so you might have to offer something in return or get involved with their establishment in some way.
