Time or Money?
If you've ever searched for any SEO content you've probably realized that there are an abundance of websites out there offering paid services. Anything from complete on and offsite optimization to a backlinks package. Trouble is: how do you know what to outsource (pay someone else to do), and how do you know what to just do yourself?
Well, there are a couple of ways to look at it.
1) How much can you afford to invest?
- Perhaps the easiest way to decide; do you even have the money to invest right now? Decide exactly what you're willing or able to spend.
- Naturally, the more you can invest, the more you don't have to worry about doing yourself; and the more you do yourself, the more you save. Finding the balance between paid services and good old fashion work is the key to getting the most out of your time AND money.
2) How many projects are you running?
- Meaning: do you have only one or two sites or do you have, or plan to have, several? The more sites you have, the more work you're going to want to outsource. Unless, of course, you are in no big hurry. If you wanted to take a few months to a few years to get all your ducks in a row then you should probably just stick to doing things yourself, as SEO services can become fairly expensive.
There are, however, ways to balance your projects successfully. The most obvious method that sticks out in my mind is buying a backlinks package. Not a backlinks package in which the company makes your backlinks for you, but a backlinks package that contains a list of sites that you can easily link to without searching for hours and hours on end. You could then use this list to set up your backlinks by yourself. This method probably won't produce the most amazing results unless you find a package for your specific site subject (as relevance ranks better than irrelevance) but it will give you a nice little boost in backlinks.
Really when it comes right down to it, you're going to have to sacrifice a bit in both directions unless you have unlimited time and money. If you don't have a lot of money, you're going to spend a lot of time working on your SEO, especially if you're working with multiple sites. In turn, if you have money you're either going to be spending a lot of it or still doing much of the work yourself.
